Jerrelle Benimon To Join the Hoyas

The Washington Post is reporting that 6'8'' local product Jerrelle Benimon will be joining the Hoyas next year.

Few things:

- Who is this kid?
- Walk-on?
- What about Latavious?
- If use a schollie on him, means we have one left for Classes of '09 and '10.  We are going after some pretty big names in '10.  Does this mean Monroe is done after next year definitely or too soon to tell?

Good talk.

We should have a "capsule" on every player. I wonder what Nikita’s would look like?

Love this pickup

This is the kind of player we have lacked. Junkyard Dog kind of guy that is long and gets after the rebounds. I picture him guarding the inbound pass on the press. We need 2 more of these guys. Nova has them. Louisville has them. We need more. Tall athletes that get in your grill. I like it. Keep up the flurry JT3.

Not a walk on

So one schollie left for class of 09/10. Me thinks Latavious is not coming to the Hilltop..

Jerrelle is the third person from his high school to ever play DI basketball. The others are the great Duane Gilliam and the legendary Mike Fling. If those names don’t jump out at you, then you don’t know basketball.

Good talk.

JT3 Interview

He can’t specifically talk about recruits but JT3 had this to say about his spring signings in an interview with The Hoya

"I think it’s important that you try to find pieces that fit what you’re doing and how you’re doing it," he said. "I think it’s human nature that a lot of times, everyone in this industry, from the coaches to the players to the fans, can get caught up in ‘so-and-so is ranked’ … You know we all can sit here and rattle off examples of people that weren’t necessarily ranked that have played here and other places that had pretty good, if not terrific, careers, and you can also rattle off players who have been ranked that did not have successful careers."

Thompson added that all of the country’s most gifted players may not showcase their talent on the national circuit. A lower-rated recruit that does not play on an AAU team, for example, could very well become a star on the college level. In fact, Thompson has had experience coaching a player with a very similar background.

"He’s easy to use as an example, but Jeff Green is someone who, and I forget the exact number, but coming out I think Jeff was a top 100 or 200 or was a top 300, so what does that mean?" he said. "I think you get guys who want to work hard, that want to compete, and obviously whether you are ranked or not, you have to have a level of talent."

Specific reference to Summers being the ranked player not having a successful career?

Good talk.
