Omar Wattad to Transfer
Casual Hoya has been informed that Omar Wattad intends to transfer. Details hazy at this point, but we'll provide more info as it becomes available.
Wattad averaged 2.6pts and 11mins/game last season, shooting 29% from behind the arc, but was relegated to the end of the bench towards the end of the season.
In a word: replaceable.
Another scholarship has opened up.
Casually.

I look forward to the Hoyas starting Nikita and NO ONE ELSE next year. (Will Thompson have to sit out a year when he transfers as, technically, an incoming Freshman?)
Man thats
great news, and it does open up another scholarship, so III can hit the trail hard now.
It is almost like starting over. I guess guys are seeing the writing on the wall, H AH AH HA HAH A yes yes ye

Hollis
…is eligible to play this season, and could have last season after joining the squad prior to the ’Cuse game (the good one). Word is that he picked up the system very fast and my guess is that he makes the leap into the starting lineup.
Casually.
Im telling you
Don’t sleep on this kid Hollis man, I will say this about him
he works his ass off and gets after it. He was on the bench last year
yelling like PE2 was when he couldnt play. I think it was a good move he didnt play, it
would of been a wasted effort but more importantly a waste of a year of eligibility IMHO.
This guy will start next year no doubt in my mind. Best shooter on the team. oops did I say that

ANYONE
Like I posted over on the people’s republic chat board, it is safe to say everyone is probably considering jumping ship.
Blip
Not everyone
Just the few who seem that they do not want to be team players, and refuce toplay within the system, hell if we end up with a younger team next year then we had this year, I’m all for it, atleast I know these guys are hard workers and willing to play within a winning system with the right formula. I just wished we pressed on the defense, but we have it looks like 5 open schollies for 09 and 10
WE ARE GEORGETOWN NOW AND FOREVER
My point.
If they don’t want to be there, stop wasting the time of those who do want be on the hilltop!

Yes yes
I totally agree, I think guys thought they would come in because they have high school acolades and it woulf transfer to the college level, but you cant be a whiney little bitch, and expect to be a leader. Because if the leader is a whiney little bitch, then the team number one do not have a leader, and then the fall out, as you see what is happeneing now. III is taking hold of the situation, boldly I might add.

Who's to blame?
Did JT3 get too caught up in receiving attention from McD AA recruits to realize that they wouldn’t have the same passion/intensity/motives as the Wallaces and Hibberts of the world?
Good talk.
blame?
I don’t know if I would blame III. I would say that he was a victim of his own successes. He gained access to some high profile recruits and they liked what the heard from him. He probably thought he could bring them in and they would be able to run his offense (that involves alot more instincts and a higher level of decision-making) better than what he had ever seen. The problem with that idea is that recruits don’t get extra stars by their name or get to play for the clown title by playing better team basketball, for the most part. You get to that point by showcasing your talents. So, here we are, stuck with showcase players at 1, 2, and formerly 4. Our 5 is an anomaly that could be gone after one year.
Showcase kids don’t care for learning fundamentals or trying to understand the game on a higher plane, in my opinion. I think that is why we say the offense getting abandoned alot of times for a one-on-one game, or a stupid 3 pt shot. I doubt showcase kids really ever had to commit themselves to a system and, as a result, are incapable of doing so.
I guess my point is that being a head coach is a learning process. He never had access to those types of players and now realizes that you can’t turn someone into something that they aren’t. CW will probably never stop abandoning the tenets of the offense in crunch time. III has probably learned alot about what kinds of players fit the system and recruit only the higher level players that he feels will work to learn to adjust to playing as a unit.
I am certain that this will open up the gates for people to attack the offensive system.

Bigs!
III was hesitant for some reason to go BIG!! Seldom did we see DS, GM & either HS/JV all in at the same time! We needed to punish and intimidate…..we did neither this year. III relied too much on finesse and it failed. We need SIZE!
Agree
07-08 season started off with a big lineup. sapp, wallace, summers, ewing and hibbert. but before BE play started he went to a smaller lineup of sapp, wallace, freeman, summers and hibbert. he has never gone for the height advantage since.
Good talk.

blame?
III’s problem is that he didn’t realize the importance of a big “bruiser.” We need a rebounder and intimidator in the lane. DS was/is a 3, AF is a 2…they have played out of position for 2 years and that killed us! We have needed a true 4 for the past 2 years!
Case in point
AF is a 2 but he has the body to be a 4, shit i bet he is close to what 225-230 easy. The guy needs to lose some weight first and formost. Now back to the other things, I do not blame III for the team this year. He for the most part gave them every chance to win games, and not end up in the NIT. Now that said he cant shoot free throws, play defense, or make the correct passes on the floor. In practice these guys run that offense like a machine, game time comes, it looks likes chinese arithmatic. We need guys that want to get better, not think because they were all this and that in high school that they would bring that to the college level, not alone play in the BE. As I have said before, it seems we are going to be looking at almost a brand new team next year, and it will be growing pains, but I tell you what, I bet the results will be better next year thats for damn sure. III has learned his lesson, he was as pissed as anyone after losing the games the Hoyas lost this year. But it called a learning process, you are never to old to learn, and he will take these mistakes and build them into stepping stones.
WE ARE GEORGETOWN NOW AND FOREVER
Missing PE Jr. more than ever
Not only was he the type of player Air Crawford mentions we need (team first, wants to learn) but he would rebound.
How will Latavious fit into our system. Is he more of a Ewing Jr. (surprise) or a Macklin (bust)?
Good talk.
by Hire Esherick on Apr 2, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I believe
he puts you in the mind of JYD, but has a little bit of a jumper in which he is working on right now. He is a little smaller than JYD but weight wise, I dont think the kid is even 200lbs. But has no problem rebounding and getting after it. And he has heart, thats the main thing, the guys will mix it up in there and not stand around ala Dejuan and get fucking backdoored ally oooped to death because he is just standing around flat footed and disinterested.

Do the math
I remember a few years ago, close games, we had it in the bag. OT games in the fucking bag especailly the Caroline win, what they score one basket in OT. This year we looked unprepared, scared, nervous, you name it. It isnt that III changed it is these players not believeing in the system. And thats where the whole problem lay, and everyone talks about the DUKE incident. Shit this started a few weeks before the Hoyas played Duke,do the math, do your homework.
WE ARE GEORGETOWN NOW AND FOREVER
Exactly
This team looked like an Esh coached team towards the end of games and in overtime! We did not execute properly….we couldn’t inbound the ball, defend the inbound or break the press. We also didn’t value each possession. How many close games did we lose?? In those games….how many times did we step out of bounds or commit numerous bonehead turnovers?? We also tried to FORCE the back-door way too often. I am curious as to how many tunrovers we had trying to convert on the back-door compared to the number of buckets. I am willing to bet the answer will shock us! Time to retool and get some guys with HEART and SMARTS!
Backdoor
The backdoor is built on three things luring the defender to sleep and then slipping by him, making sure when you cut, your cut is crisp and detailed, and finally you have to have the pass correctly. Well I can count on one hand how may times those things came into play this year. These guys were just going through the motions man. Walking through the damn lane, not even trying to run or cut, nothing. I was at one game losing my mind looking at these cats, so called mcd aa’s, was pathetic. So yes when you have those types of players on the team, you going to look like your unprepared and the backdoor not working. Because when the defense knows its coming, it is easier for them to defend when your just bullshitting walking through the lane, instead of setting you defender up and cutting correctly. III will correct this, he tried to send those guys a message last year when he benched the whole starting 5, but they still didnt get the message. So yes it is time to clean the cubbard, because we got alot of style point players and not basketball players.

Advice
I would advise anyone who has access to a tape or recording of the Duke game in VC to go back and watch it and compare that offense to the product that I had to choke down over the last 3 months.

Williams
Evaluation
February, 2009: Williams has the athleticism and leaping ability to dominate the boards on both ends of the court. Williams attacks the offensive glass and finishes offensive rebounds above the rim with tip-dunks. His leaping ability allows him to grab defensive rebounds out of his area but he does not do this as much as he should. He does not have a great back-to-the-basket post game and needs to improve his touch around the hoop. If he plays as a power forward, he needs to add a jump hook to his game. If he wants to develop into a quality small forward on the next level, he needs to improve his ability to hit jumpers as well as his ball-handling skills. If he does this could develop into a nice inside-outside, frontcourt player, as he seems more comfortable as a power forward than a small forward. Williams also needs to increase his defensive focus and intensity.
Evaluation for Class of 2008: He is a tall, lanky, very athletic player who needs to get a lot stronger. He really jumps out of the gym but is not a very skilled player at this time. He has a big upside but needs strength desperately. All his points come around the basket, “garbage” guy at this time. He needs to develop skills, shooting, a post game, offensive moves, and a better understanding of the game. His athleticism far exceeds his skill set right now.

Has there been talk about Chris transferring? I was late to the HoyaTalk boards yesterday and noticed that all transfer talk has been shut down. I’m not looking to stoke rumors, just determine their validity and source.
Yes
There has been speculation that he is unhappy with the system based on the way he plays.
I don’t think he transfers though, has too much to lose by sitting out another year.
Good talk.

Thanks for your reply.
I too think he stays. Name a quality, NBA point guard that transferred after their sophomore year.
6
I like Air Crawford’s list but am still holding out hope that Nikita 1) gets deported or 2) the Belorussian military orders him home for some service duty.
I doubt the latter will happen though because in the military, if you can’t shoot straight you can get someone killed.
At Georgetown, that sort of talent makes you a starter.
Casually.
Nikita makes me nostalgic for the days of Brendan "Rudy" Gaughn
Because he would never come off the bench unless there were only 2 minutes left and we were up by 30. In other words, the exact role Nikita should have.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
Now thats just cruel Casual
Nikita should be the 14 player off the bench for a 13 player team. I still remember the Syracuse game, when he took that last second shot, and the ball hit the backboard, did you see his follow through, OMG, the guy acted like he knew what he was doing. LOL, he had his arms and hands in the air like he knew that shit was money in the net, but in reality it was a fucking brick that hit the side of the backboard, H HAHA HA HA

Wattad transfer = academics
I think it’s funny that no one has considered that the kid may be struggling in the classroom and that’s why he’s leaving – not because he’s pissed at III or unhappy about the hoops side of things.
If it’s just about academics, that makes me feel better about the state of the program, actually. And I don’t expect a huge exit other than the eminently replaceable Omar – Monroe is the only possibility, and that one is totally understandable
Unlikely anyone here knows for sure,
But historically academic-related transfers have come after sophomore year.
I wouldn't go that far...
Monroe is certainly a possibility, but he is NOT the only possibility. We’ll see what happens.
Casually.
the one thing i will miss about omar
and so ends “aerobics class with wattad”… he really did have some great on the court jumping jacks and other sweet moves. that sort of karate chopping through the air in attempt to grab the ball is talent, indeed. sigh.
