2009 Recruits - Providence

Head coach Keno Davis' first recruiting class at Providence is a critical one as he looks to replace eight graduating seniors from a team that was on the cusp of making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004.

Star-divide

Johnnie Lacy
PG / 5-10 / 160lbs / Milwaukee, WI
Ranked #49 overall and #8 in position by Rivals.
Was also considering Marquette, Minnesota, Texas and Indiana.
ESPN comments about his quickness but states he is in desperate need of a floater because "when he gets to the paint, he has a tendency to throw up wild, off-balance shots."

Kadeem Batts
PF / 6-8 / 225lbs / Powder Springs, GA
Not ranked by Rivals.
Was also considering UMass, Nebraska, Chattanooga and South Alabama.
ESPN says he has the perfect build for a PF while the Providence Journal states he is a good rebounder and shot blocker.

Duke Mondy
SG / 6-3 / 180lbs / Grand Rapids, MI
Not ranked by Rivals.
Was also considering Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo.
ESPN calls him in an average basketball player with a good jump shot and decent driving abilities.

James Still
C / 6-8 / 205lbs / Detroit, MI
Not ranked by Rivals.
Was also considering Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Xavier and Purdue.
ESPN calls him a versatile and athletic big man that is very raw offensively.

Vincent Council
PG / 6-1 / 170lbs / Brooklyn, NY
Not ranked by Rivals.
Was also considering Central Florida, Rutgers and Arkansas.
ESPN states he has good quickness but looks to score from the point guard position too often and needs to involve his teammates.

Kyle Wright
SF / 6-6 / 215lbs / Hartford, CT
Not ranked by Rivals.
Played at Stony Brook his freshman year, then transferred to Colorado, where he sat out a year, then to Monroe College, where he played this past season.
ESPN states that he is quick and explosive to the basket and is able to hit jump shots.  He will also add experience to a very young team since he has had D-1 experience, albeit in a much less competitive conference.

Russ Permenter
PF / 6-9 / 225lbs / Temple, TX
Not ranked by Rivals.
Played a season at Texas-San Antonio and then transferred to Temple Junior College.
Prov City calls him "a big man who can shoot from the outside" but will need to prove that he is able to handle Big East competition.
