Hey Chris!  Why the long face?

MAYBE NEXT YEAR YOU SHOULD CONSIDER RUNNING THE DAMN OFFENSE!

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest as I settle in for some riveting Auburn-Baylor action.

Go Bears.

Casually.

I think this should be a new tradition

Casual Hoya’s post-season Airing of of Grievances, following in the Festivus tradition set forth by the Costanzas.

Good talk.

Fortunately,

this we gotta lotta problems with this year’s team.

I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

I dont think

Chris will be with us, he feels the offense is holding him back, and he is a Mcdonalds All-American, he should be able to run and gun the whole 40 minutes without anyone questioning his decision making on the court. Lets just say someone from around my way who went to Herndon high school even laughs at Wright, and some of the boneheaded things he does on the court. Says he will never be on JWall’s status. hhmmm how valuable was Wallace damn

I've said it before

and I’ll say it again: it will be a very bad thing if Chris Wright transfers. It will signal a very large problem with the program as it would be the 2nd McDonald’s All American to transfer in the last two years, AND this one won’t be tied to playing time. Chris is not Jon Wallace. Chris will never be Jon Wallace. But, take a look at that roster and tell me who you would rather have bringing the ball up. He isn’t the best fit and he makes some boneheaded decisions, but he’s what we’ve got and he’s the best we’ve got and for him to transfer would be BAD both on court (though not devastating) and for the sake of the program (this is the part that would be devastating).

McD A-A's

Why do people get so hung up on this? Most of these guys are products of the me-first AAU mentality. I am beginning to think that they aren’t a good fit for what the coaching staff is trying to accomplish.

Completely Agree

Rankings and awards in high school are completely meaningless.

The top ranked Georgetown recruit (according to rivals) from the Class of 2004 was Cornelio Guibunda. Ahead of Roy Hibbert, Jeff Green and Jonathan Wallace.

Good talk.

Cornelio made a SPLASH

at American though…

Rankings are whack, but it still wouldn’t look great on the recruiting front. That’s my only point.

I don't disagree

from a future recruiting standpoint, especially since this system isn’t designed for them. I’m not a fan of the hype around McD’s A-A’s, but they do give a program credibility and to have two of them transfer out in back to back years would be a big blow to the program’s credibility. Like I said, the impact of a Wright transfer would not be as terrible from an on-court perspective (although, we would be better if he was here). It would be a credibility blow in recruiting.

But would it be so bad

if he left for some other reason….?

by artmonk4ever on Mar 25, 2009 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

What other reason?

Not stirring things up, but like academic reasons?

Are we really ready to entrust the offense to Jason Clark any more than Chris Wright?

I like Clark...

…from what I’ve seen of him. He did turn the ball over a lot, but he also saved a lot of turnovers with his Stretch Armstrong arms. Problem with the turnovers he made also stemmed from not having an effective way to attack the full court press, one of the many things I was disappointed that JT3 never seemed to correct in this year’s team.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I wouldn’t mind a lineup of Clark at the 1 and Wright at the 2. Would force a smaller lineup but Clark was one of our better rebounding guards.

That is if Wright stays…

Good talk.

by Hire Esherick on Mar 25, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I like that lineup

I would take that for sure. Wright would have a tantrum, but I would love it. It would certainly be one of the fastest backcourts around.

I'm not really at liberty to say right now...

…but there are a couple of things I’ve heard that lead me to believe that one way or another, he won’t be back.

I like Clark a lot. He made some mistakes this year, but hopefully he learned a lot. I’m also not at all concerned about his committment to the program and the team, which IS a concern I have about Wright. He seems to be a me-first player and that simply won’t work in this program, on the floor or off.

by artmonk4ever on Mar 25, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree

that there isn’t concern about his commitment to the program.

I'm torn.

I agree that Wright seems to hate our offense and wants to run with the ball. But two things make me think he will stick around.

(1) He originally committed to NC State, which ran a similar motion offense under Herb. He knew what he was getting himself into.

(2) He has already missed a season with the injury his freshman year. He has two years of eligibility left. If he transfers, he will sit out a year, and play in the ‘10-’11 and ‘11’-’12 seasons. He will be nearly 23 by the time he graduates, NBA scouts want youth, not wily and well-traveled veterans.

Good talk.

by Hire Esherick on Mar 25, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

I think he stays too. I don’t have any inside details, but I just have a hunch he stays.

Those long arms...

also rifled the ball into the third row quite often. Almost like watching Jai-Alai!

Don't Knock It

You can win a lot of money betting on Jai-Alai in Florida.

Certainly more than you would have won if you took the Hoyas all season.
