Rakeem Christmas Cuts List to Five

Big man recruit Rakeem Christmas has narrowed his list of schools to five.  Amira Hamid, Christmas' aunt and legal guardian stated:

"Since our last announcement, certain schools have made a valiant effort regarding Rakeem's recruitment. Stronger bonds have been established with a few programs and their staff. Our current list reflects that.  Once we know it's right for Rakeem and once he feels 100% confident about the situation, everyone else will know. This process has been lengthy but we are in no rush to meet a timeline. We're pleased with the current schools we are considering and looking forward to watching them play this season."

Christmas is currently considering Florida International, Florida, Georgetown, Oklahoma and Texas.  Dropped from his previous list are Baylor, Indiana, Ohio State and Villanova.  Isiah Thomas and his Florida International program entered the mix during the past three months.

Star-divide

With regards to the narrowed list of schools Christmas stated:

"I'm happy to work with a smaller group of schools going into the season. I've been so busy with maintaining my grades and practicing with the team, that I think this will help me focus with having to deal with less pressure during the season. My transition at ANC has been great. I'm enjoying my classmates, teachers, and teammates. Coach Givens has been great with the workouts. I'm just ready for the season to start."

Rakeem, a 6'8'', 200lb center out of Bryn Athyn, PA, is ranked as the #4 prospect in the Class of 2011 by Rivals and Scout ranks him as the #1 center in the country.

Good talk.

One of these schools is not like the other...

Florida
Georgetown
Oklahoma
Texas
Florida International

If X-Mas signs with Isiah and FIU, I mean, can’t we just have the NCAA investigation papers filed right now?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

This has Marc Eggerson, Victor Paige, DaJuan Summers, Hargrave Christian Academy, PROGRAM DESTRUCTION written all over it. Please baby Jesus DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. Let this guy and his agent and his cousin (an assistant coach) and his mom (with a new Escalade) go wreck some other team.

X-Mas Time at Verizon

Rakeem Christmas is EXACTLY what Georgetown needs.

In 2 years when Greg Monroe is playing for the Nets, you’ll be able to overlook it when Nikita is hoisting a dozen shots per game on Senior Night because we will have a dominant force down low to ATTACK THE GLASS and grab the inevitable REBOUNDS .

He is the #1 rated center in the nation and will be perfect to usher in the next wave of upside at Big Man U.

$$

Surely this discussion will be moot when a Texas alum gives the right person a paper bag with $15k in it. I don’t think Hoya booster takethepoints has that kind of cash to throw around this basketball program yet.

Where our 2011 commits?

In the JTIII era I could always look forward to the start of the new season knowing no matter how it went, we had talent in the pipeline.

Usually it was during the fall we would announce our big new recruits, you know recruits one could imagine might actually improve a program (actual results may vary) –

Summers and Macklin Fall ‘04
Wright and Freeman Fall ‘05
Monroe – Fall ‘06
Hollis – Fall ‘07
Starks and Lubick Fall ‘08
Fall ’09?? – silence.

I just want Christmas for Christmas so that I know the pipeline still works.

@ bunk

true but only a quarter of the top 100 recruits have verballed anywhere.

lots of teams have no verbals from class of 2011, including
uconn, duke, kentucky, kansas, memphis, ucla

texas is really the only one who has done damage with four signees – but they also only had one from the class of 2010.

i think jt3 is waiting to see what happens with 2010 before giving out too many offers for 2011. going to be very guard heavy in 2011 with wright, clark, freeman, sanford, starks

Good talk.

i know facts - schmacts

I actually think the top guys are hesitating because the NBA CBA is up to June of 2011 and they want to know whether to go to Europe a la Jennings or if the age limit is changed or dropped. And schools are willing to wait out the top guys.

Still JTIII has consistently announced a solid commit in the fall.

He aint in it for the dough

Any guy looking for Booster cash doesnt eliminate Ohio St in favor of Gtown. This is a good kid, and we would be lucky to get him.

lordnick...

Where are you getting this stuff on christmas from? If he was crooked 1) Georgetown would not be involved 2) He wouldn’t have cut kentucky.
Not saying you’re wrong or lying, but i haven’t heard anything like this before.

Second none of the things you listed were program destroying. In fact none of those things are even negatives in my mind. Eggerson was a solid player for us. Victor page was too. As was Dajuan. I’m proud of all 3 of those players. Sure Page made some mistakes, and Dajuan didn’t live up to his potential. I’m well aware of eggerson’s suspect eduactional history, but he left in good standing at georgetown. I can’t see how any of those guys were program destroyers.

Program Destroyed

Egerson barely graduated from a fake high school (the underbelly of big-time basketball, the NYT called it). Victor Paige, a nice enough guy, had no business being at a school like Georgetown (nor in the Dakotas with a broom handle and a beef to pick with a ref). And DaJuan Summers just had a bad attitude. Good riddance. Sure, maybe their averages were ok (at least when Summers wasn’t mailing it in), but Georgetown can get better guys. And should. Hello Greg Monroe! Anybody feel free to prove me wrong about Rakeem, but high schools that put out press releases (to lame blogs) about recruiting just rub me the wrong way. So does the school name “Academy Of The New Church.”
