Lafayette Leopards (4-1) vs. #18 Georgetown Hoyas (3-0)

View from the Student Section - A Perspective from Campus:

Will any students be at Lafayette game this Saturday?  I'm going to assume the Verizon Center will be about as empty as my Philosophy class was on Wednesday and for the same reason- when Thanksgiving approaches, people run away from Georgetown the first chance they get.  It's not because they don't enjoy Georgetown, but the idea of a holiday is so appealing that almost every student books the first ticket they see home and certainly won't be back by Saturday.  By Wednesday afternoon, the campus was completely deserted; my government teacher kept referring to the remaining fourth of my class as "we happy few."  In any case, the team should not need much fan support against Lafayette and will hopefully take advantage of the easy schedule leading up to the Butler game on the 8th.

View from the Court Side Seats - A Perspective from OldHoya:

Another tough game for OldHoya to fire up for, particularly on the heels of a trip to Italy to get some well earned relaxation.

To maintain a well rounded balance, it's time to impart some knowledge about fine dining: Olive all'Ascolana. For those who haven't tried them, these are olives stuffed with veal, battered and lightly fried. You won't find them on any menu in these parts  but if you can twist an arm (or grease a palm), you're in for one of the best appetizers man has yet devised.

View from the Sportsbook (via DonBest) - A Perspective from Vegas:

Once again Vegas has turned a blind eye to the Hoyas, likely knowing that no matter what spread it sets all the money will be on the Leopards.  Assuming no line on the Mount St. Mary's game, we're probably not going to be able to wager against Chris Wright until the American game at the earliest.

On the season:

The Hoyas are currently 1-1 ATS (that's 'Against The Spread' for those just tuning in).

Georgetown is 1-0 ATS on the road and 0-1 ATS at Verizon.

Casual Hoya is 2-0 ATS, 1-1 in Over/Unders.

No chance

I’d give Lafayette the same chance of winning as Tiger being ‘saved’ from his car by his wife with a golf club.

Unofficial Student section tally

Gametime

Lafayette clearly outmatched ao this game has to be about team and individual improvement. Monroe needs at least 15 and we need Vaughn and simms to show out

Zone

Lafayette showing a lot of zone. Hoyas very effective attacking but settling for jumpers too easily

Still silent

Coaching staff doing fAr more talking than the team on defense. In contrast, I can heat Lafayette on the second level

Putstaning sequence with a dunk on one end and a block on the wing. Excellent energy to then sprint the floor

Managers

Gtown manager working hard on the second level – both he and his Lafayette counterpart tape the game while charting in game situations

Second media

Lafayette sticking around strictly based on threes. Gtown new lineup includes Hollis, who clearly attends the same weight room that Lafayette does

225

Verizon shootout features a kid who actually might have shot a ball in his life. He drains the 3 for a cool 225. Should be nough to buy a beer for every student here

Come on

I understand overlooking Lafayette but this is a joke. 1 point with 10 minutes left? Close out on shooters – these guys aren’t beating us on the dribble – and attack thr zone rather than standing

Nice FT shooting

They are getting in foul trouble. If they start missing threes, we will pull away quickly. Unless we keep missing rebounds…

upside

The upside about driving around trying to find a bar is that I have heard this Jay Sean song 12 times. Baby don’t worry, you are my only, no need to worry, even if the sky is falling down…

Also—tremendous new song by my man Chris Brown.

by JahidiLikesPie on Nov 28, 2009 1:02 PM EST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Optimism?

Little question on play of the half as Clark skipped it to Monroe who shouted it down on Lafayette. Hollis definitely displayed a nice touch and Freeman looked great attacking and with some nice midrange game. Wright is still looking for his too often but continued to attack

based on that half, I’d expect to see A LOT of Zone this season. Simply a nonexistent zone offense consisting of standing and hoping for threes to fall. There’s no longer any concern with Lafayette and now’s the time to improve with ball pressure and moving the ball

lastly – simms clearly in the doghouse

by itsallthatmatters on Nov 28, 2009 1:04 PM EST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

failure is an option

Cooter Brown’s would not put the game on bc of college football saturday.

The Boot, Hurricanes, and Fox & Hound do not get MASN.

Too early?

Yikes. Lafayette cuts it to 18 with 14 to go and Nikita checks back in. Positive plus-minus in jeopardy

Against mt st mary's

Absolutely. But as we move to a stronger part of the schedule, that probably won’t be a winning lineup. Simms and Vaughn simply have to produce

Excellent rebound and putback by simms though i’d trade that to see the hoyas spiny a better job on the defensive glass

simms has another 6 minutes to get himself better and just had a great breakaway block

High-low

Exactly what they needed: great feed by simms to Vaughn down low and Vaughn finished strong while drawing the foul. Outstanding

by itsallthatmatters on Nov 28, 2009 1:46 PM EST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Hmm

No reason that lafayette’s big guy should have this many points but simms did just lower the boom on him. Until simms and Vaughn cam get things together, I’d like them each to have at least 4 fouls per game

as I type, simms heat checks a 3 (not what we needed) and Nikita fouls out by giving up an and-one layup to lafayette’s pg. Nikita is awful
