Stay Hot: Jeremiah Rivers

Sure the season's young but I think we're getting the sense that it wasn't the Gtown offense holding Mr. Rivers down and might have had more to do with his lack of talent.

Obviously, he was nervous playing DC-based Howard and could only come through with 6 points, 4 boards, and 4 assists (with a healthy 4 turnovers) in 26 minutes but what's the excuse for the stinkbomb against USC Upstate (powerful new member of the ASun) with 2 points, 4 boards, 5 assists and another 4 turnovers in 31 minutes?

We can only assume that whatever bet Tom Crean lost to Doc Rivers will soon be repaid and Jeremiah will rightfully return to his spot on the bench.

Documented.

Stay Casual, my friends.

an earlier comment from rivers fan ‘beatcuse’:

Look out…Rivers unleashing his new offensive fury on the USC Upstate Spartans
2 points on 0% shooting (0-4) and 50% free throw shooting (2-4)
4 IU starters + 2 bench players again outscored him
Once again (see the consistency that’s developing here…) led the team in turnovers (4) and minutes played. To be fair, he had 5 assists. Imagine what he could do in a pass first offense!

Casually.

Rivers and Macklin production

Who would you bet on in this matchup?

Rivers – season shooting percentage

or

Macklin – season free throw percentage

Any chance either cross 30%?

Wow

In a shocking twist, I’d have to take Macklin as his current .333 pace will decimate Rivers’ .167

Quite the battle of heavyweights. Both of these guys oversigned at Gtown and then overtransferred – they should have ended up at East Tennessee State with Omar Wattad.

both thought they were stars coming out of high school. Maclin because he was a McD All-American which typically means squat in college and Rivers because he’s Doc’s kid. Both would have helped Georgetown as role players and both would have had their weaknesses hidden by the offensive system (well except for Rivers’ absolutely atrocious outside shooting and Maclin’s FT shooting). But, at the same time, I’d rather have Jason Clark (an actual star in the making) and Julian Vaughn (who appears to be much-improved after game one) than those two anyway. Stay hot Jeremiah and Vern.

From the indiana message board

“Not sure about anyone else but I cringe everytime Jeremiah touches the ball because it seems like he either turns the ball over or takes bad shots. Hopefully he is just trying to impress his dad and the rest of the garbage is done after this game”

LOL! Welcome to our world of two years ago!

Well that didn't take long

Also USC Upstate? Sounds like a crappy SUNY school.

Just Retribution

Agree totally with Chris Haines. Rivers and Macklin were over their collective heads and a new opportunity in prime time will expose this. How many times did I have to listen to Jay Bilas talk about Macklin and his “potential”??!! The guy can run the court, grab a rebound and stuff it back in. Period. Rivers is a head case. G’Town was tailor made for his limited skill set. And he got minutes. And some credit. Just don’t get it. Maybe Winter Park disease.

Omar, on the other hand, I kind of liked because he was SO SO OVERRECRUITED that it was actually funny to watch him play …as a 6th man?. You had to love every 3 pointer he made because it was so unbelievable that he was actually in the Big East and playing. I guess he didn’t get the joke. But I still see him potentially putting up 15 – 20 points a game for somebody. Is he at ETSU I thought it was SIU?? Not that it really matters.

Top 10!

Hilarious Rivers highlight featured on ESPN’s Top Ten this morning narrated by Ty Lawson. The clip is Rivers flying across the lane, full extension, look of terror on his face, and heaving the ball back up behind his head. It goes in! Tremendous offense! Ty called it “sexy.” Maybe I’ll go look for a clip.

last night

not a bad game for young jeremiah, by rivers standards

14 points on 6-6 shooting, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 turnovers and 4 fouls

Good talk.

Rivers bringing a lot to the table

In a casual LOSS to the powerhouse Ole Miss Rebels. Maybe he was inspired by some nice Puerto Rico Cockfighting.

Cockfighting across from the Ritz

That place had actually closed down when I was in San Juan last summer. Best daiquiri I’ve ever had though at The Ritz. Only $18.

5 minutes of hell

the final straw for me was realizing that the guy standing next to me at the cock fighting place was eating chicken wings.

Good talk.

followed up the 4-13 in the loss to BU

with 2-8 in a LOSS TO GEORGE MASON! More turnovers than baskets: That’s Jeremiah Rivers Basketball!

JR

It’s not transferring JR. It’s transference. If you’d paid attention in Intro to Psych, you’d have known that.

The (insert schematic here) offense just didn’t fit my game.

Ya. Cuz ya can’t play BASKETBALL numbnuts.

Credit where credit is due

Rivers back on fire in a real basketball offense with six points in 36 minutes as Indiana takes town the vaunted Northwestern State Demons (that would be Northwestern Louisiana). But hey: he did get ten assists and seven rebounds. And five turnovers. Solid outing, Jeremiah! You’ve finally found an opponent to showcase your talents.

Excited

To see (and boo) JR at MSG next week in the 2nd game of Jimmy V. Although, Indiana is playing Pitt so I’m almost obliged to root for them.

Vernon Macklin played more decently after transfering.

Ole Rivers was hot against Maryland last night

With 5 points on 2-4 shooting, and of course blessed them with 4 TO’s, man I’m so sorry he transeferred, our back court is really missing him. ROTF, not
