No Mo' Mo Walker - Sad Day for All

Remember Maurice Walker?  The center that tugged at the hearts of every Georgetown fan?  The big, bad bruiser we desperately wanted to see don the Blue and Gray uniform?  Well unfortunately for the Hoya Faithful, Jeremy Meyer is reporting that the new Big-man U, Pittsburgh, is the most likely destination for the 6'9'' big man out of Canada.  It is interesting to note that Rivals does not even have Georgetown listed as a potential destination, and that it is a race between Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, St. John's, and Texas A&M.

Couple of things you can potentially (and probably incorrectly) assume from this news:

  1. Georgetown never offered Walker
  2. Georgetown focused its attention on Rakeem Christmas and Jordan Omogbehin
  3. Greg Monroe told JT3 that he plans not only to stay through his junior year, but will also enter the Society of Jesus after graduation in an attempt to stay at Georgetown FOREVER

On the bright side - Meyer is also reporting that Georgetown is one of three programs listed as finalists for Tony Mitchell, a 6'6'' slasher out of Texas.  Mitchell is ranked as the 3rd best SF and 15th best player in the Class of 2010.  Other schools in the mix are Missouri and North Texas.  Yes, North Texas. I didn't think it was possible to come up with another school with Texas in its name.

Good talk.

It's not a done deal by far

Spoke with Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith just before I headed to bed last night. He said it’s unlikely that Maurice Walker signs early. Pittsburgh seems like the school to beat though.

“That’s definitely his leader, but I believe his parents would like him to take another visit to have something to compare it to,” Smith told Scout.com.

interesting, also from coach smith

“I’d be surprised if Maurice went anywhere other than Pittsburgh,” Smith said. “It is a great fit for his style of play, and they have had success with players similar to him.”

not saying he define for pitt, but seems very berry unlikely for gtown – seeing they arent even listed as a possible suitor

Good talk.

JJ moore just committed to pittsburgh.

This makes the situation even more interesting. That puts pitt already at one over the scholarship limit. to sign walker they’d have to go 2 over the limit. interesting.

guess is -

gilbert brown doesnt come back next year – that leaves them at 13

if they sign walker – they ask one of the redshirt freshman to find another school. or one of the verbals doesnt sign LOI

Good talk.
